The 25th Annual St. Thomas – St. John Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Varsity Basketball Invitational, sponsored by McDonalds, was held during the Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, January 12-14, 2018 in the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School Gymnasium.
The St. Croix Educational Complex Barracudas upset the St. Croix Central High School Caribs to win the championship 53-46. SCEC Point guard Kadeem Milligan was named tournament MVP and the team walked away with a $2000 cash prize, compliments of McDonalds.
The Charlotte Amalie Lady Hawks were victorious in their exhibition games against Ivanna Eudora Kean Lady Rays. They were the only two teams in the girls’ division this year and were awarded $500 each.
Participating schools teams included the Ivanna Eudora Kean High, Charlotte Amalie High, St. Croix Educational Complex, St. Croix Central High, Antilles School and Sts. Peter and Paul School.
Kean’s Kahfari Samuel won the 3-Point Shootout held during the tournament. Awards for the highest GPA were presented to Dlvyesh Gurnani of Antilles School and Elois Commodore of Eudora Kean High School.
